Dear Northern Colorado Physicians,

With spring underway NCMS looks forward to new growth in the Society this year, while maintaining the things we’ve done well for so many before.

In March we held our annual meeting in person for the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, at the Windsong Events Center in Windsor, with gratitude to those who attended. The strength of the Society has always been our wonderful members, who work so tirelessly both clinically, socially, and in advocacy efforts for our profession and patients at the regional and state level.

We listened to the results of the annual member survey last year, and have planned our activities and initiatives for 2023 around the top two priorities membership desired:  legislative advocacy and enhanced social events. And, with your generous participation, we hope to combine these interests in socially-oriented fundraisers for the local and state Societies throughout the year. Evenings of bowling, cooking classes, book clubs, a summer social at Pelican Lakes in Windsor, and a golf tournament are just a few member ideas for fundraising events so far. And as the social calendar evolves we look forward to hearing more of yours, as we continue to grow both our social presence and advocacy initiatives in fun and engaging ways.

In addition to these exciting plans, and dove-tailing in the arena of enhanced advocacy efforts, NCMS plans to step up our efforts for specific public health needs this year, including those surrounding mental health support for the region — and especially as it pertains to the tragedy of gun violence — diversity, equity, and inclusion work in Larimer and Weld Counties, and attention to support for physician wellness in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The first event to these ends is planned for the evening of May 10th at 6 p.m. at the Best Western in Loveland, an open board meeting where we’ll hear from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), regarding intended collaboration in the region to provide better mental health support for concerning and at-risk patients. We invite all members to attend and join a conversation devoted to our shared mission with the FBI of public safety. The goal remains actionable ideas emerging this year. With many more exciting initiatives to come, a heartfelt thanks to all our members on your tireless work, supporting the health of patients and the profession in Northern Colorado. While the pandemic winds down and the challenges facing the region continue to evolve, we understand that the resolve and persistence of our wonderful membership in the face of these challenges remains steadfast and unchanged. We look forward to working with you on any issues important to you this year, and invite all membership to join the teams forming around what we hope proves a time of good work for the health of the profession and Northern Colorado.

All the best,

Sean Pauzauskie, MD
