Physician of the Year:
Sean Pauzauskie, MD
Dr. Sean Pauzauskie, MD, is a hospital neurologist with UCHealth who completed medical school in Kansas, and residency inCalifornia and Texas. He lived in Fort Collins as a child and relocated as soon as he had a choice, to serve a community hecares about and be nearer his family. His interests in medicine range from translational research to public health and policy,having worked in Washington, D.C., prior to medical school on these issues. He also completed a medical history fellowshipin Germany, studying post-reunification health policy through the lens of the doctor-patient relationship. Dr. Pauzauskie isexcited to work with such a great group of physicians, residents, and students as those he’s found in Northern Colorado. He’smarried to his wife, Jen, a hospital chaplain, and has a Siberian husky, named Tika. In his free time he enjoys fishing, hiking,biking, college basketball, reading and writing fiction, and spending time with family and friends.

The NCMS Board of Directors seeks nominations for the Northern Colorado Medical Society Physician of the Year, the society’s highest honor. Deadline: December 31st. The award will be presented at the NCMS Annual Meeting in February.
CRITERIA: The nominee must be a member in good standing of the Northern Colorado Medical Society (graduate, active or emeritus). Unsure of membership? Contact us.

Legacy Scholars
The NCMS Legacy Scholarship benefits students in both Larimer and Weld counties, and honors NCMS members who have passed away.

Iyana Malik is a third-year medical student at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Fort Collins Branch. She grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama. Her career aspirations center on practicing global medicine and working overseas to care for underserved populations with limited access to health care. Her professional interests are guided by a desire to improve access to care for patients in resource-limited communities.

Jessica McQuaid is currently a second-year medical student attending the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine at Colorado State University. She originally grew up in Aurora, Colo., and attended the University of Colorado Denver for an undergraduate degree. Following her degree, she moved to New Mexico and worked on research into traumatic brain injuries before returning to Colorado to start medical school. She’s passionate about health education and preventive care, and will incorporate these pillars into whatever specialty she pursues (still undecided).
