President’s letter: NCMS accomplishments plus a look into the future

As you know, 2020 has brought unprecedented challenges to physicians, patients, practices and membership organizations like ours. The mission of the Northern Colorado Medical Society has always been to advocate for our physician members while encouraging a strong and healthy medical profession but, of course, this year we had to come up with different ways to do this while supporting physicians through a pandemic. NCMS is proud to say that despite these challenges, NCMS continues to be a leading component society in the state of Colorado.

  • NCMS remains the largest component society in Colorado, serving 800 members in the Weld and Larimer County region.
  • NCMS rose to the challenge of COVID-19, partnering with the Colorado Medical Society to get PPE to northern Colorado when shortages and price gouging were preventing individual practices from filling orders.
  • The NCMS Physicians’ Book Club officially launched this summer as NCMS leaders lean into the virtual world to bring member engagement and camaraderie.
  • NCMS was one of few component societies to move forward with an all-member virtual event, the 2020 NCMS Legislative Night, hosting a completely virtual but interactive event.

NCMS is proud of this past year’s accomplishments, but this is just the beginning. The NCMS Board of Directors and I have big plans for the future, including:

  • Challenging ourselves to be better community leaders and members, embarking in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training at the end of the month.
  • Program and partnership creation for medical students (more to be announced soon)
  • More member engagement events, including CME.
  • Redefining our Annual Meeting, bringing exciting elements unseen!

Stay involved by continuing your membership through this next year while finding your niche inside of our society. Join our Physicians’ Book Club, participate in upcoming virtual events and challenge yourself to become involved at the state level with CMS.

Sincerely,

Claire Murphy, MD
NCMS President
